MONKS

My first image of the monk came to me when I was nine years old while walking in the woods. I had an experience where I saw a figure standing in the doorway of a small cabin. His hands were clasped in the most peaceful, non-threatening way. The smile on his face was something that felt beatific to me, benevolent. Later in my life, the image of that monk came back to me and I started painting them. I have carried the idea with me for most of my life. They calm and soothe me in any moment that I might need it. I feel they represent a kind of calm in the midst of the chaos of this world.
